This international conference series focuses on non-target screening of organic chemicals in the environment used for comprehensive chemical risk assessment.

At the latest edition, “Nontarget 2026” at Monte Verità (Ascona) in April 2026, we would like to discuss the recent developments in the non-target screening field, from the analytical technology to application in real-field studies and implementation in risk assessment within the zero pollution strategies in the EU and beyond. We have identified the following five main topics:

Topic 1: Analytical frontiers
Topic 2: Computational tools
Topic 3: Transformation products and persistent, mobile, toxic substances
Topic 4: Nontarget screening & hazard assessment
Topic 5: Application in chemical management

The conference will have a mixed format with keynote lectures from leaders in the field, shorter oral and poster presentations of participants as well as workshops. All participants (up to 120 due to room restrictions) are expected to contribute an oral or poster presentation or be active in a workshop. The program is set up to allow for extensive personal interaction and networking.

So far, identified workshop topics

  • Newest instrumental technologies for NTS
  • Structure elucidation methodologies
  • NTS Prioritisation approaches (hazard, use information, toxicity etc.)
  • Chemical space covered by NTS
  • (Prediction) tools to gain confidence in NTS results
  • Harmonization of NTS for measurements & data evaluation
